In Zenless Zone Zero you start as Wise or Belle, two siblings who run a video store in New Eridu while secretly working as Proxies, which matters because everything you do outside the shop revolves around guiding Agents through the dangerous Hollows. The result is a fast action game wrapped in a stylish city life sim with a cat girl, a shark maid and a robot cowboy among the cast.

Life in New Eridu

New Eridu is a city built around the Hollows, strange zones full of monsters called Ethereals and valuable resources. Citizens live normal lives in the streets around Sixth Street, and you spend part of your time here talking to locals, running the Random Play video store and doing small daily tasks.

Your partner in the store is Fairy, the AI assistant, and the Bangboo, small rabbit-like robots, help out in the Hollows. These little touches make the city feel lived-in between missions.

The urban setting is one of the most praised parts of the game. Street art, music and neon signs give it a look that stands out from fantasy-heavy rivals.

Agents and Factions of Zenless Zone Zero

Agents are grouped into factions. The Cunning Hares bring Nicole, Anby, Billy and Nekomata, the cat girl with a love of fish and a fast slashing style. Victoria Housekeeping includes Ellen, Lycaon, Corin and Rina, and Belobog Heavy Industries adds a team of construction workers.

Faction bonuses reward teaming up Agents who share an attribute or faction. That encourages players to build teams around a story group rather than just picking the strongest units.

Nekomata is especially popular with fans of cat characters. Her cheeky personality and speed make her one of the easiest attackers to enjoy early on.

Combat: Dodges, Daze and Chain Attacks

Fights are real-time and fast. A Perfect Dodge right before an enemy hit slows time briefly and opens a Dodge Counter, which is the core rhythm of almost every encounter.

Enemies have a Daze meter. Filling it staggers them, and staggered enemies take extra damage and trigger Chain Attacks, where your Agents swap in one after another for big combo hits.

Quick Assists let a teammate jump in when the active Agent gets hit. Learning when to swap is what separates a messy fight from a clean one.

The TV Exploration Debate

Early chapters send Agents through Hollows using a grid of TV screens, a board-game style map where you move a cursor and trigger events. It is unique, but many players found it slow compared with the action sections.

Later updates reduced how much story relies on it and leaned more on direct exploration. Fans still split on whether the TV maps were charming or tedious.

Hollow Zero, the roguelike mode, keeps some of that structure while adding run-based upgrades and rewards.

Signal Search and Progression in Zenless Zone Zero

  1. Use Polychromes and Encrypted Master Tapes for Signal Search.
  2. Level Agents with materials from combat simulation stages.
  3. Upgrade W-Engines as weapons and Drive Discs as gear sets.
  4. Spend daily Battery Charge on the materials your main team needs.

Signal Search is the gacha system, with pity guarantees for top-rank Agents and W-Engines. Like other games of this type, limited banners create pressure for players who want every character.

Players who like the turn-based pace of Honkai: Star Rail often enjoy the faster rhythm here, and those who want open exploration usually move on to Wuthering Waves.

Zenless Zone Zero mixes Perfect Dodges, Chain Attacks and a lively city into one package. Pick up Nekomata and the Cunning Hares, guide them through the Hollows of New Eridu, and the next commission at Random Play is always waiting.
